Why we're coming
We'd rather have a conversation than send you a brochure.
Deciding whether to teach in another country is not something you settle from a careers page. So we're bringing the team to you.
Two Teach in the Territory recruitment specialists will be at each session, alongside representatives from across the Northern Territory Government. Come with questions. Bring your partner. Bring the mate who keeps saying they need a change.
What you'll walk away with
No pitch. No pressure. Just answers.
A straight conversation
What teaching in the Territory involves, including the parts that are hard.
A sense of where you'd fit
Darwin, a regional town, or a remote community. They're different jobs.
Clear next steps
Registration, applications and timing, explained properly.
An application, if you want one
If you're ready, you can start it on the night.
You are under no obligation to apply. Plenty of people come to work out whether this is even for them. That's a good reason to come.

Straight answers
The things people ask us
Will my New Zealand registration count
Your NZ teacher registration can be recognised in the Northern Territory through Mutual Recognition. You will need to apply for NT teacher registration with the Teacher Registration Board of the NT before you can commence teaching.
Visit the Teacher Registration Board website for more information →
Is it all remote communities?
No. The Territory has schools in Darwin and Palmerston, in regional towns like Katherine and Alice Springs, and in remote communities. They are very different jobs and we'll talk you through all three.
What does it actually pay?
Classroom Teacher salaries depend on your years of experience in the profession.
What about my family?
Come and talk to us. Partner employment, schooling and housing are the questions we get most, and they're much better answered in person than on a webpage.
Explore the Territory
Where could you see yourself living?
The Northern Territory is more than Darwin. From tropical towns and coastal communities to the red centre and remote outback, every region offers a different way of living.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
- Can New Zealand teachers work in the Northern Territory?
-
Yes. New Zealand citizens may be eligible to live and work in Australia under the Trans-Tasman arrangements. You will still need to meet NT teacher registration and Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card) requirements.
- What if I am a New Zealand permanent resident but not a citizen?
-
NZ permanent residency does not provide the same Australian work rights as NZ citizenship. Your visa and work rights will need to be assessed before you can commence employment.
- What if I am already living in Australia on a visa?
-
You may be eligible to apply for NT teaching positions, but your visa conditions and work rights will need to be confirmed as part of the recruitment process.
- Can the NT Government sponsor me?
-
Potentially. Sponsorship depends on your individual circumstances, eligibility and the position available. Not every vacancy can offer sponsorship.
- Do I need NT teacher registration?
-
Yes. All teachers must be eligible for registration with the Northern Territory Teacher Registration Board (TRB NT).
If you are currently registered in New Zealand, you may be eligible to apply through mutual recognition.
- Do I need an Ochre Card?
-
Yes. All teachers working with children in NT Government schools require a Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card).
- What teaching jobs are available?
-
We recruit classroom teachers across the Northern Territory, including Darwin, regional, remote and very remote communities. Opportunities vary throughout the year.
- What types of schools can I work in?
-
There are opportunities across a diverse range of NT schools, from urban schools to remote and very remote communities. You can discuss your preferred location and school setting with the TAR team.
- How do I apply?
-
You can register your interest through the NT Classroom Teacher Recruitment Pool or apply for advertised classroom teacher vacancies through the NT Government Careers website.
- What happens after I register my interest?
-
The Talent Attraction and Recruitment (TAR) team will review your application and eligibility. If suitable, you may be contacted about available opportunities and/or invited to an online interview.
- What will I be asked about in an interview?
-
We may discuss:
- Your teaching experience and qualifications
- Your preferred school and location
- Teaching opportunities available in the NT
- Your visa/work rights, if applicable
